Transport from the Airport to Sapporo City Center

New Chitose Airport, located approximately 45 kilometers from Sapporo city center, is Hokkaido’s largest airport, connected by direct flights to approximately 30 cities in Japan and approximately 18 foreign cities. The airport is used by 23.6 million people annually (2018), making it the fifth busiest airport in Japan. The airport serves an important role as the gateway to Hokkaido.

By railway (JR): JR is the fastest means of transportation to Sapporo City from the airport. The Rapid Airport Service to Sapporo runs approximately every 15 minutes between 8:00 and 23:00, and takes passengers from the airport to Sapporo Station the quickest in just 37 minutes. JR Hokkaido New Chitose Airport Station is directly connected with the airport terminal building. The one-way fare is 1,150 yen. Seat reservation is available which charges 530 yen.

The trip from New Chitose Airport to JR Sapporo Station takes about 60 minutes and will cost approximately 20,000 yen depending on the traffic conditions. Some taxi companies also offer a fixed-price service to Sapporo city beginning from 7,000 yen (advanced booking and a separate expressway fee are required).

Local Transportation

The subway system in Sapporo consists of three lines – the Namboku (south-north), Tozai (east-west) and Toho lines – and employs a station numbering system. The nearest subway stations to the meeting venue are Higashi Sapporo (T12) on the Tozai Line. Subway fare from downtown Sapporo to Higashi Sapporo station is 210 or 250 yen for a single trip.
For further information visit:

There are taxi stands in front of major train stations and tourist spots, or you can hail an empty taxi that is driving down the road by waving your hand. Passengers ride in the back seat (the front seat may be used in cases where there are several passengers). The back door, on the side opposite the driver, opens and closes automatically. All taxis calculate the fare via the meter next to the driver. There is no need to negotiate the fare. Also, additional fees such as highway tolls etc. are not included in the meter charge, and will be charged separately. Uber is not available in Sapporo.
